Recently, construction on our cockpit mockup has been completed! Ever wonder how comfortable sitting in a Formula SAE car actually is? The answer is typically relatively uncomfortable, at least compared to a standard consumer car. Although an FSAE car will never have the soft cushioning and air conditioning systems found in most modern vehicles, the comfort of the driver still needs to be taken into consideration.
To do so, the team has constructed a mock version of the cockpit, which can be easily adjusted in order to suit the needs of the MMI (Man-Machine Interface) team. The mockup is constructed from wood, and has pegs that facilitate the ease of modifications to the setup of the cockpit. After various configurations are tested, one will be selected that suit the needs of the team, along with being able to fit the 95th percentile male and 5th percentile female.
